The seven- or-eight passenger Honda Odyssey has always been popular, even with the decline of minivan sales in this age of the SUV. This comfortable and spacious vehicle, which is often used to transport multiple generations of a family. On the outside, it gets bright LED headlights, a sharp blackout grille and lower front fascia, and fog light housings. Honda is issuing the 2021 Odyssey in five trim levels: the LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. The powertrain consists of a V6 engine (280 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque) and a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission. All versions achieve an EPA-estimated 19 mpg around town and 28 mpg on the highway.
The base LX comes with a series of desirable features, including LED headlights, rear privacy glass, remote keyless entry, a rearview camera, automatic climate control, push-button ignition, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, power-adjustable front seats, a one-motion 60/40-split third-row Magic Seat, and seating for up to seven passengers. The EX gets power sliding doors, heated side mirrors with built-in turn-signal indicators, Smart Entry with Walk-Away Auto Lock, LED fog lights, tri-zone automatic climate control, Magic Slide second-row seats (for eight-passenger seating), additional power adjustments for the driver’s seat, and heated front seats.
The EX-L adds memory functions for the side mirrors and driver’s seat, a moonroof, a power tailgate, a HomeLink remote system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstered first- and second-row seats, and additional power adjustments for the front passenger’s seat. The Touring gets front and rear parking sensors and ambient interior lighting, and the Elite adds a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and a hands-free liftgate.
Safety and Technology
All trims come with the Honda Sensing suite of active safety aids: collision mitigation braking, a road departure mitigation system, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. The LX also gets lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, traffic sign recognition, and automatic high beams. The remaining trims are supplied with a blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic monitor.
The base infotainment system in the LX includes a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming, a seven-speaker audio system, and a center console USB port. The EX moves up to an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen and adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite and high-def radio, HondaLink, and a front console USB port. The Touring comes with an in-car PA system, a rear seat Blu-Ray entertainment system with a pair of 10.2-inch HD screens, a household-style power outlet, an HDMI interface, integrated navigation, a rear seat monitor, an on-board Wi-Fi hotspot, and various HondaLink subscription services. The Elite maxes out the bells and whistles with an 11-speaker audio system and a wireless phone charger.
